Astrological Forecast for December 21 to 27, 2006

by Ellen Zucker

The winter solstice arrives today at 7:22 pm EST.

This is a time for celebration by many. The winter solstice is the point where the Earth points furthest away from the Sun in the northern hemisphere. We experience the shortest hours of daylight and the longest hours of darkness - the reverse being true for the southern hemisphere.

It also coincides with the Sun's entrance into Capricorn and the official start of winter.

After the winter solstice, the hours of daylight will gradually lengthen.

Capricorn is a cardinal earth sign. Cardinal signs are signs of action. Earth signs anchor us to the 'real world' - that material reality in which we all must function, like it or not.

It is during Sun's journey through Capricorn that we celebrate our new year. Popular symbolism and customs associated with the holiday give us valuable clues to making the most effective use of this time.

At the stroke of midnight, old Father Time makes way for the New Year Baby. We begin the New Year with a clean slate, a new calendar, and a chance to try again - hence the spate of New Year resolutions.

Likewise, the stroke of midnight is also the moment when many businesses end their old accounting year and begin a new one.

This time of year is also linked with the two-headed Roman God Janus. One head looks back and the other looks forward.

The Sun's journey through Capricorn is a wonderful opportunity to create our overall planning for the year. Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, governs structure. Our plans create our structure for the year. Perfect!

Keeping our Roman God in mind, the first step of planning requires that we look backward to see what worked and how well.

Now is also the time to take the wonderful ideas we have generated during the planetary pileup in Sagittarius, vet them, and make them practical. After all, it has been said that a business plan is nothing more than a vision with a timeline.

So... What are your primary goals for the year? How will you implement them? What is your strategy?

The two weeks following the new moon is best for beginning new projects. Happily, yesterday's New Moon reinforces the Sun's entrance into Capricorn.

Nonetheless, I recommend waiting until early next week before taking action. Mars clashes with Uranus on Friday setting the stage for upsets and explosions (but also inspired insight and breakthrough).

Also the Moon is void of course from Thursday afternoon through Friday, a condition that works against the successof new things started then.

Be especially careful on the roadways during this timeas people are prone to be hot tempered and impulsive.

Early next week, Mercury repeats the contacts the Sun made this past week with Saturn and Pluto. This energy provides fertile ground for time management and strategic planning.

Although we are beginning to feel terra firma, four planets still remain in fiery Sagittarius as we end the week, so our spirits remain high.

Happy Holidays!

Daily Forecasts
Times listed are based on Eastern Time Zone.

December 21
Happy Solstice. The Sun enters Capricorn at 7:22 pm EST. The moon is in down-to-earth Capricorn giving our emotions much needed grounding and focus. Nonetheless, the moon is void of course from 11:05 am on. Begin the holidays early or focus on routine tasks.

December 22
The moon is still void of course until it enters Aquarius at 9:49 pm and Mars clashes with Uranus. Stay loose, flexible and expect the unexpected. When Mars and Uranus make contact, impulse control is low and tempers flare easily. Stay focused and alert. And stay aware of flashes of inspiration that also accompany this transit.

December 23
Mercury, planet of communication and mental processes makes an easy exchange of energy with grounded Saturn. We calm down after yesterday's tension as we regain the ability to think clearly.

Nonetheless, with the Aquarian Moon making a soft aspect to fiery Mars, we want to be out and about.

December 24
Complete your holiday preparations by mid-afternoon, then sit back and enjoy the day. Some conflict with an older person or an authority is possible in the late morning as Moon faces down stern Saturn.

Rather than let matters get under your skin, find a task to divert your attention and keep you busy.

December 25
Merry Christmas. Today, Mercury, planet of communication, dances with Pluto, Lord of the Underworld. In the late afternoon, Moon meets Uranus, planet of shocks. Family baggage may rear its head at the holiday dinner.

December 26
This evening, the Moon clashes with Pluto, planet of power, and then Mercury, planet of communication. Yesterday's issues linger. Our emotions are on edge as we make it clear that we do not want to pushed around or taken for granted.

December 27
Mercury enters Capricorn for a three-week stay. Our thinking becomes more grounded; more concrete. Organizing your home or business is a productive use of this energy.
